If your child is going to be using Invisalign Teen, King Orthodontics would love to answer some of the most-asked questions that we hear from parents. We know that Invisalign is somewhat new for many people in Pittsburgh, so our orthodontists want you to know just why we think it’s such a good treatment.
Invisalign is just as effective as braces; otherwise we wouldn’t be treating teens’ teeth with it. Invisalign also has some other benefits that braces don’t: the aligners are removable, they are clear so that no one knows you have it on, and they make it easy to see your teen’s progress.
Let’s face it: teens don’t usually want to call attention to their teeth if they’re not straight, and they’re not thrilled about wearing noticeable braces, either. Invisalign is a safe, effective way to straighten a teen’s teeth without anyone knowing, because they’re clear. The aligners are replaced every two weeks until teeth are in the proper position. Plus, they’re removed when you eat or drink, so your child doesn’t have to follow a special diet, like what’s necessary when your wear braces.
The aligners should be worn at least 22 hours a day to be effective and to gently guide the teeth into position. But they can be removed to eat or drink, to brush and floss, while your child is playing contact sports, and even for special events like the Prom. Most teen Invisalign wearers don’t have any issues with playing band instruments while the aligners are in their mouth.
